My name is Justin Norton and I am a graduate student at Auburn University. I have been married for eight years to my wife, Tabitha. We have two children. Malachi is 6 years old and Mary Ruth is 2 1/2. We currently live in Canton, Georgia and are active in the music ministry at our church, Hopewell Baptist Church, also in Canton Georgia. My wife and I both received our undergraduate degree from Berry College in Rome, Georgia in 2000 in Music Education. This coming year will be my 9th year at Teasley Middle School in Canton, GA. It will also be my 7th year as the assistant band director at Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia. I would eventually like to teach high school full time.
Great review! Based on your comments from the podcast and PDF handout, it sounds like this would be an excellent resource for junior high/high school choral and band students to work on their ear training. I also enjoyed learning about how you would apply this in your classroom by using it to prepare students for all-state auditions. I worked in GA briefly, and I know that the requirements (at least for choral) are very demanding. Great job!
Great review of Ear Master 5. Labeling your screen shots in your PDF handout was very helpful. It made it very easy for me to follow along. Your podcast and PDF handout flow very well togther. Pointing out that you has used the software before but did not realize its full potential was very good. I believe this would inspire the potential purchaser to examine the software more carefully before deciding whether or not to use it in their classrooms. Pointing out that the potential purchaser should try the free demo software first was very good as well.
Hi Justin, You really did a great job. I would be very interested in purchasing this program for my choral group. This sounds like a wonderful ear training program. I would love to work with it myself as well. Thanks, Laurie
I enjoyed your review. It sounds like this is a quality, yet fairly advanced program. I did not know that there was another program to help with teaching jazz besides SmartMusic. Good to know.
I have a couple of questions. Did you have a problem with lag on the rhythm exercises? That was my biggest issue with Music Ace and Musition. If this program eliminates that issue, it's a great one, indeed!
Thank you for reminding all of us that we should download a demo before purchasing a program or even a site license. Good advice.
Great Review of the Software! It is great to see options for teaching sightsinging, especially on an individualized basis such as this. I can see many of the benefits of using this in class.
A question about the rhythm...did students have trouble keeping everything lined up using the space bar? I had difficulties when I worked with abelton on the spacebar, but that was really the only question I had. Great job!
It sounds like a fun time with the whole hitting the space bar at the right time. I am sure that computer speed is also an issue in this instance. Good review. This sounds like a program that I would like to use.
Justin, Great review of your program. I really liked how you referenced your PDF in the podcast as you were explaining about the program. Ear Master 5 sounds like a really good program to use in the music theory classroom. I will have to check this out.
